Dr. Steve Friedlander, was born and raised in Northridge, California. He attended the University of California, Berkeley and received a B.A. degree in Psychology in 1987. Dr. Friedlander attended Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania serving as his class Vice-President and obtained his M.D. degree with multiple awards in 1992. His interest in ophthalmology and retina was peaked by Dr. Stephen Sinclair at Hahnemann. Following an internship at Crozer-Chester Medical Center, Dr. Friedlander attended the University of California, San Diego for Ophthalmology Residency. After serving as Chief Resident he then attended the University of Illinois, Chicago for a two year vitreoretinal fellowship which he completed in 1998.
Dr. Friedlander moved to Reno, Nevada to join Dr. Nielsen at Nevada Retina in 1998. He has become active in the medical community serving as President of the Nevada Academy of Ophthalmology, and has been appointed Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Nevada School of Medicine. Dr. Friedlander also has served on the Board of Surgical Arts Surgery Center, and maintains an interest in the sociopolitical issues in the delivery of medicine, often interacting with insurance companies, the Center for Medicare Services, and elected officials, in order to provide the best and most cutting edge care for the patients of Nevada Retina Associates.
